Pulau Ubin Training Camp 2017

End of Year Camp 2017

From my NPCC experience, I attended camps in school and at Pulau Ubin which included intensive trainings. These trainings instilled resilience and strengthen my endurance level. I took part in drill trainings which involved team work too.

In 2017, as a staff sergeant, I was allocated to the secondary 1 cadets to conduct their drill training weekly. I actively listened to their thoughts and challenges and designed my trainings according to their strengths and weakness. I conducted small group trainings for easy facilitation.

As the camp commandant in 2017, I organised the end of year Npcc Camp in school. While planning the proposal, I ensured the activities and games were safe and included back up plans so that challenges can be tackled positively. I collaborated with other cadet officers to collate their suggestions too. My NPCC experience taught me how to be an disciplined individual with resilience.

Events Team

I was responsible in leading my team members. I portrayed myself as an active listening leader whereby I acknowledge my members’ thoughts and challenges. This enabled me to build positive relationship with them and they were comfortable in addressing their concerns to me too. I presented myself as a trustable leader to them. There were many challenging situations such as urgent meetings, last minute changes of plans and duties that needed to be executed quickly. Therefore, the close bond I formed with them enabled me to tackled these challenges positively with their strong support.

Teacher's Day Event

I organised the Teacher’s Day Celebration in 2017. I planned the proposal together with my fellows exco members. I worked with my other members and gathered many interesting ideas. As I had to choose the best ideas among all the interesting ones, I displayed respectfulness in terms of acknowledging their effort. I created a QR code system and pasted it on the school notification board to gather students to showcase their talents during the celebration. I received more than 10 responses in few days. This planning experience honed my organisational and decision making skills while working with others

Graduation Ceremony 2016
It was my first hosting experience. During the ceremony, there were some last minute changes such as adding a new segment to address some last minute announcements. Therefore, I tackled them professionally by staying calm. I was flexible and adaptable to these changes which enabled me to host the ceremony smoothly. This first hosting experience motivated me to join other hosing events in school.

Speech Day 2014
I worked with my 2 other fellow prefects. We came out with creative ways to host the event in an interesting manner. We used a formal tone yet created a friendly atmosphere while hosting. We also coordinated the transition from one person to the other. Therefore, we expressed our ideas while discussing them. I took part in the participation of writing the script with the teachers. I was able to be a valuable contributor during the process of preparing for the event by expressing my suggestions.

Public Speaking 2018

I promoted my secondary school to the primary 6 students from Fernvale and North Vista Primary Schools. I also talked to parents during the open house. I shared my experience as a student, as an exco member and as a NPCC member. I received questions from students and parents which challenged me to answer spontaneously and confidently. I was responsible in preparing my scripts and slides to speak. This experience instilled confidence in me in presenting myself as a valuable student from Serangoon secondary school.
